Unconfirmed reports of mountain lion appear on Twitter

WASHINGTON -

There are reports of a mountain lion sighting in southeast D.C.

An alert for a sighting in the 3600 block of Highwood Drive popped up on Mayor Vincent Gray's Official Twitter Account for the Office of Neighborhood Engagement & Community Relations just before 8:00 pm Wednesday night. READ THE TWEET: https://twitter.com/EOMONE1/status/385598104244084737

It could not be confirmed by D.C. Police, Animal Control or the Washington Humane Society.

The wild cat was allegedly seen near fort Dupont Park - an area that has undeveloped tracts of land and deer.

Mountain lions are known for stalking and killing deer.
