Woman Shot Twice At Point-Blank Range During Robbery, Police Say

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Police say a 21-year-old woman was shot twice in Philadelphia's Juniata section.

She was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where she's in critical condition.

Police believe it was a robbery attempt.

One person is in custody, and investigators are looking for a second person they believed was involved.

The woman was shot in the back and buttocks, but the .22-caliber bullets that struck her are known to travel through the body and do a whole lot of internal damage.

"Even though these robbers got cash, the one perpetrator, for some reason, fired three shots at very close range at this 21-year-old victim," Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. "Based on ballistic evidence, we've found three spent shell-casings, we know at least three shots were fired from a semi-automatic handgun. All three shell casings were found within feet of where the victim collapsed and dropped her bag and her belongings. So we know these shots were fired from point-blank range."

One of the men was found hiding under a truck with a gun, and the woman identified him as one of her attackers, police said.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley has more details in this video report from the scene early Thursday morning.
