'Krewella': New Album "Get Wet," and Their Rise to Fame

Jahan Yousaf, Yasmine Yousaf and Rain Man of electronic music group Krewella have had quite the stellar past year. Riding on the heels of their hit single "Alive," which received significant airplay and remixes from the likes of Hardwell, the group is poised to hit big sales on their album, Get Wet, which recently premiered on September 24.

elitedaily.com was lucky enough to catch up with Krewella before the album launch to discuss the album, their rise in popularity and the success of their biggest hit to date, "Alive."

Enlisting the help of V Squared Labs, the studio behind the visuals for ISAM, Amon Tobin's mind-blowing projection-mapped performance sculpture with fabricator Stefano Novelli, Chicago trio Krewella recently realized a two-year dream of creating a giant, first-of-its-kind glittering volcano for their live shows. As part their newest tour, the band, whose debut album Get Wet hit stores on Tuesday, worked in tandem with the studio to turn ideas and sketches into a full-scale light extravaganza. Above, we talked with the the masterminds behind the project about the massive crystal volcano, how it works, and the steps it took to get it from idea to installation.

Krewella, formed in 2007, consists of songwriting/vocalist sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf accompanied by producer Kris "Rain Man" Trindl.[4] Their music is a blend of self-produced electro house and dubstep, with influences of many other EDM styles. In June 2012, Krewella released their EP Play Hard. The album rose to #1 on Billboard's Dance Radio Airplay[5] chart and the single placed on the Pop Radio Airplay charts.[6]

Krewella has headlined at EDM festivals around the globe including Ultra Music Festival,[7] Electric Daisy Carnival,[8] Stereosonic[9] and Spring Awakening.[10] These live performances earned the 2012 International Dance Music Award for "Best Breakthrough Artist."[11] After a widely publicized live vocal set[12] at this year's Ultra Music Festival, Billboard declared that "Krewella will be huge this year."[13]

The group released their first full-length album Get Wet on Columbia Records on September 24, 2013.
