‘Unseasonably warm' temperatures expected Tuesday

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Don't expect fall weather to go along with your pumpkin spiced coffee this October 1 — the temperature is expected to climb into the 80s by Tuesday afternoon.

Once the fog dissipates Tuesday morning, the temperature is expected to reach the low 80s, about 15 degrees warmer than the 68-degree average high for Oct. 1, said Jim Allsopp, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Romeoville.

Though the heat may feel record-breaking, the record high temperature for Oct. 1 is 92 degrees, Allsopp said, adding that the temperature is not expected to come close to breaking the record Tuesday.

The unseasonable heat is due to strong southwest winds developing and a low-pressure system moving north of the Great Lakes, Allsopp said.

The hot and humid weather will continue through the rest of the week, though some rain and thunderstorms are expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning, and again Friday night into Saturday, according to the weather service.
