Obamacare Confusion

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

Obamacare is supposed to be taking effect today, but many Americans seem to be completely confused about how exactly this new healthcare option works.

First of all, if you do not have healthcare, this is now an option for you. You simply go to the website www.healthcare.gov and fill out the form. You will need to verify your social security number, family history, birthday and immigration status. You are also asked to estimate your 2014 income and calculate what your subsidy is going to be before you can start shopping for healthcare.

Please note that if your current employer offers healthcare there is a chance that you have to take that option as opposed to getting government sponsored healthcare.

The Federal Data Services Hub has been established as a tool to associate all of the institutions who are involved with Obamacare, including: the IRS, HHS, Department of Homeland Security, Social Security Administration, Department of Defense, and Department of Veteran’s Affairs. All of these institutions are responsible for working together to gather individual information from place to place and make sure that it all comes together smoothly.

The Association of Medical Colleges surveyed a group of doctors and 43% of them said that they are thinking of retiring within the next few years because of the implications of Obamacare and how it affects them and their companies.

A recent Monmouth University poll showed that 22% of New Jerseyans said that they are in fact in favor of Obamacare. However, 27% had an unfavorable opinion of Obamacare.

Rutgers-Eagleton Poll Director, Dave Redlawsk chimed in to discuss how the problem right now is that New Jersey opinions of Obamacare seems to be divided by party lines and that the state isn’t spending any money to give people the information they need on this new healthcare option. “They won’t lose out in the sense they will have Obamacare. It will be available for those who need it. We lose out because there is little money to tell anybody about it.” Redlawsk said.

In addition, New Jersey has passed some of the most expensive premiums for Obamacare, and these prices aren’t likely to go down due to the lack of competition between insurers.
