DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

The mother of an 8-month-old baby killed in a hit-and-run crash is urging the driver involved in the accident to come forward.

Jeremiah Blount died in a crash on Columbia Drive in DeKalb County last month. His 20-year-old mother, Lakiedra Blount, said that she and her boyfriend were driving down the Decatur road when another car came speeding up behind them and clipped their car. They were sent into a spin and crashed into a tree.

"I remember getting up and reaching for my son and getting him out of the car because I [saw] smoke," said Lakiedra Blunt. "I laid him down and tried to do CPR."

Jeremiah, just 8 months old, died. Lakiedra's boyfriend, Bernard Rucker, was severely injured.

Authorities have yet to find the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident.

"It stopped for a brief second, then kept going. Never turned around, didn't stop to see if anyone was OK," Lakiedra said. "Whoever it was, they took my whole life away from me."

All that the grief-stricken mother knows about that the car is that it was four-door and tan colored, possibly a Toyota. She said that there were at least two people in the front seat.

A grand jury ruled Tuesday that a Euharlee police officer was not authorized in a recent shooting that took the life of a 17-year-old boy. The officer claimed the teen had a gun, but the boy’s family said it was a video game controller. Christopher Roupe was shot and killed on February 14. The Bartow County Grand Jury found that Euharlee Police Officer Beth Gatney was not authorized to use deadly force.
