MESA, Ariz. -

It's a nationwide event with a stop right here in the valley. 40 cars on a 22,000 mile trip through Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

Friday, the drivers rolled through Mesa. At exactly 9:30 this morning, 40 participants of the fireball run started their engines, on their way to El Centro from Mesa, Arizona.

"This is a stop, we are day 6 out of 8," says Sally Harrison.

President of the Mesa Chamber of Commerce Sally Harrison says the players arrived Thursday. Their cool cars were not the only attraction.

"It's all about the kids. There's no heroes amongst us all we are just citizens that are concerned," says Paul "Doc" Nigh.

On the side of each vehicle is a missing child's poster. The purpose of this event is to bring attention to the cause and bring these kids home.

Among the participants, there are two Chandler residents handing out information about Gabriel Johnson, a Tempe baby who was last seen in 2009.

"I just can't imagine losing a kid, that's crazy," says Adam Keiser.

In 2007, the first year of this event, 65 teams were given 1,000 posters. Seven missing children were found that year. To date, 41 have been located.

"I've been assigned four children. Three have been located."

"Doc" has been running the fireball for 6 years. His goal is to find every child.

The roughly 22,000 mile event will end in riverside California, but to the people behind the wheel, their drive to help will never end.
