Navy Yard workers react to video of gunman

Posted: Updated:

Some workers at the Washington Navy Yard watched the FBI video in online news reports. Some had friends who emailed them the shocking video. It shows accused shooter Aaron Alexis, shotgun in hand, walking through the hallways of Navy Yard Building 197, looking for victims.

FOX 5 spoke to some of those Navy Yard employees and to others who had not yet seen the video to ask what they thought about it.

Hilary Wentworth said she found it "disturbing to see somebody with a shotgun in an office building that looks a lot like the office building I work at." Wentworth said some of the people who worked in Building 197 before the shooting now work in her building.

Navy Yard employee Justin Schiavone said it was pretty terrifying "knowing that it could have been our building."

Christopher Pullom said he found the surveillance tape surreal and hopes the Navy will be more careful in the future with background checks and clearances and monitoring people with possible mental problems.

Willis Williams told us, "There are other tragedies that have occurred that you would not expect to occur in this country. We really don't know why. There's evil in the world too. Some of it -- just chalk it up to evil."
