Woman shot and killed during party in Buckeye

BUCKEYE, Ariz. -

A 22-year-old woman is dead after an altercation at the end of a party in a rural area near Buckeye, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

The woman was among five to eight friends and a 3-year-old child at her home early Wednesday.

Deputies say she decided it was time for the party to end and there was an altercation.

"The 22-year-old victim that has died exited the house with a shotgun and confronted some part people that were outside the residence, at which time guns were drawn and the 22-year-old was shot multiple times," said Joaquin Enriquez of MCSO.

"The 22-year-old female that was shot was in an argument with the shooter at the time of the shooting, so this argument was between them."

The victim was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. While it may look like the shooting was in self-defense yet, investigators have stopped short of calling it that. They're talking to everyone involved.

With one of the two involved people dead, the challenge for detectives will be figuring out if the shooter's story adds up and if the shooting was justified.

No arrests have been made and no names have been released.
