DeKalb police: Two people shot after fight over bullying

Posted: Updated:
DECATUR, Ga. -

DeKalb County police say a fight over bullying escalated into two people being shot at an apartment complex on Flat Shoals Road.  Authorities are searching for two suspects in connection with the shooting.

Police said the fight between teenagers began at the bus stop in front of the Aspen Woods Apartments on Flat Shoals Road outside of Decatur on Wednesday morning.

Jonathan Adams, who witnessed the fight, said the bullying dispute had been ongoing.

"A boy didn't want another student bullying their sister, so they came to the bus stop to tell them to stop with the parent of the little girl. And then after that, it started getting real hostile…then the whole neighborhood came out," Adams said.

Authorities said about 90 minutes after the fight, an adult returned to the scene and shots were fired.

The two people injured in the shooting were transported from the scene. They suffered non-life threatening injuries. Their names have not been released to the public.

Nearby Flat Shoals Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution. A spokesperson for DeKalb County Schools said DeKalb police assisted with the lockdown and that no students or staff were injured or involved in the shooting.

About 10:30 a.m., DeKalb police said it appeared the shooters had fled the Flat Shoals Road scene.

Authorities identified the suspects as 32-year-old Corey Reese and 34-year-old John Reese. Police believe Corey Reese was the shooter and John acted as the getaway driver. Anyone who sees them is asked to contact police.
