A new report shows progress in D.C.’s fight against HIV infection and other diseases.
According to the D.C. Department of Health, about 15,000 D.C. residents - or just over 2 percent of the population, are living with HIV.
There were 718 new cases diagnosed in 2011, down from more than 1,300 in 2007.
The study also shows an 80 percent decrease in the number of new cases where the reported mode of transmission was injection drug use.
