Cat Returns Two Years Later With A Special Surprise

Posted: Updated:

Fires forced them to evacuate their home, and their cat was lost in the chaos. But Doug Maitland and Sharen Armstrong-Maitland were surprised and absolutely delighted when their cat, Sushi, came back to them two years later.

"We thought we were hallucinating," Doug Maitland told The Smithville Times. "Dogs are loyal and they will come back, but we never thought a cat would."

After munching on as much food as she could get her mouth on, Sushi showed a noticeable difference in temperament. According to the Maitland's, Sushi used to be very calm, but she became very aggressive toward the other adopted pets in the house.

Sushi's current state made Sharen and Doug believe that it was a sign of the tough life surviving in the wild. However, they were soon treated to another surprise when they let Sushi go outside.

Outside with Sushi on the porch was a little black kitten, cold and hungry. Sushi was being more aggressive because she was protecting her little kitten.

"Somehow Sushi had adopted the lost kitten, or the kitten had adopted her in the wild and she brought it home with her," Sharen Armstrong-Maitland told The Smithville Times. Sushi was neutered when she was six months, according to the family, so the kitten was not her biological offspring.

But just like the Maitland's have treated Sushi as their own child, Sushi did the same for the little kitten, named Ninja.

So now, two years after being separated, the Maitland's cat has added an additional member to the loving family.
