2nd week of jury selection in Brunswick murder trial

Posted: Updated:

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) -- Prosecutors and defense attorneys in coastal Georgia are beginning their second week of questioning potential jurors for the trial of a Brunswick man charged with beating his father and seven others to death inside their mobile home in 2009.

Nearly 200 people reported for jury duty Tuesday at the Glynn County courthouse, where Superior Court Judge Stephen Scarlett has set aside a month to find qualified jurors for the death penalty trial of 26-year-old Guy Heinze Jr.

Potential jurors are being questioned individually about their knowledge of the high-profile case and their feelings about the death penalty.

Since last week, 33 potential jurors have been chosen to return when the trial starts Oct. 15. The judge wants a pool of 60 from which the final 12 jurors will be chosen.
