Police arrest suspect after string of Roswell break-ins

Posted: Updated:
ROSWELL, Ga. -

Police have arrested a man they say was responsible for at least 11 home and car break-ins.

Residents of Tyson's Corner and Barrington Farms united after a series of burglaries in the area in the last few weeks.

"There were about 10 or 12 break-ins throughout the neighborhood and then the next morning everybody reported it," said Cheryl Dannenman. "We didn't hear a thing. Nobody did."

Roswell police say they quickly caught 51-year-old Jeffrey Clyde Walton in the act.

"When the officers caught they him, they caught him basically red-handed in a very similar type of crime and they're going to look at all the past cases and see," said Officer Zach Frommer of the Roswell Police Department.

Police said most of the crimes occurred after the intruder found an open house or car door.

"All he has to do is pull on a few door handles and [if he] see everything's locked up, he's going to move on," Frommer said.

Through all the break-ins, there was not any confrontation. Resident Charlie Paulauskas said he hopes that remains the case, especially since he has a gun.

"I feel protected now and especially with what's been going on in the neighborhood and what's been going on outside of this neighborhood...I hope I never have to use it, first of all, but I really feel protected," Paulauskas said.

Walton remains behind bars. Police said he's charged with one of the burglaries so far and they suspect that he's connected to many more.

Residents said they are in the process of forming a neighborhood watch to help prevent future crimes.
