Police warn of snatch-and-grab robberies at gas stations

Posted: Updated:
BOWIE, Md. -

Stepping out of your car to pump gas can offer a thief a perfect chance to commit a crime of opportunity.

Prince George’s County Officers will be at the Safeway Gas Station in the 12,000 block of Fairwood Parkway in Bowie beginning at 8:30 a.m.

They will be handing out flyers and tips to protect from theft while pumping gas. The stepped up awareness comes after a repeat bandit is hitting one particular set of pumps.

Surveillance video shows a man getting out of the passenger side of the silver car the lower left hand corner.

The suspect opens the driver’s door of the other car and grabs a bag and takes off.

In the second instance, you see the white car pull into the station.

Someone hops out of the passenger side, opens the passenger door of the other car and grabs something out of it - while the woman seems to not notice it as she's busy pumping gas.
