Teen's online video shoot creates confusion at Tysons Mall

Posted: Updated:
TYSONS CORNER, Va. -

Dozens of people inside of Tysons Corner Mall experienced some frightening moments Saturday evening. According to witnesses, shoppers inside Tysons I began yelling to each other to run, saying there was an active shooting.

Phone calls flooded into 911 and to the Fox 5 newsroom, but it turns out, it was all a false alarm. Screams from an over excited crowd of teenaged girls awaiting a meet & greet with a Virginia boy, appear to be the cause.

16 year old Matt Espinosa of Woodbridge has become quite popular among local girls for the funny videos he posts on a social network called Vine. Police believe someone was talking about “shooting video.”

The word “shooting” was overheard, and because of all the screaming girls, chaos broke out. Some shoppers called Fox 5 to report people fleeing the mall. Fortunately responding officers from Fairfax County Police quickly determined there was no real threat, other than a panicked crowd.

Espinosa has more than 400,000 followers on Vine, and 25,000 on Twitter.
