All Deer Valley High School sports teams banned from playoffs
GLENDALE, Ariz. -
The season is over before it starts for all the teams at Deer Valley High School.
The Arizona Interscholastic Association banned all of the school's athletic teams from any playoffs for one season.
Students and parents are outraged.
So why did the AIA hit the school so hard?
During DVHS football team's season opener, two transfer players who were ruled ineligible were allowed to play in the game -- a decision made by both the football coach and athletic director.
The AIA says the ban was based on people in the school's leadership allowing those players to hit the field.
"In all cases up 'til this point, it's usually a coach probation has been the precedent because this is so unusual where it was the school leadership, the A.D. and the principal that's why the school has been placed on probation," said AIA Exec. Director Chuck Schmidt.
DVHS says they will be appealing the decision at the next district meeting.
