It's 107 degrees today, how are we even thinking Christmas? It's still about three months away -- but the clock is ticking for those who want to take advantage of the Christmas rush.
That's because the Christmas rush means businesses have to hire thousands to meet demand.
If you want a good holiday job and some extra jingle in your pocket this season, experts say you should start your planning and job search now!
'Tis the season to apply for holiday jobs. Don't wait, says job guru Michael Hayes.
"A lot of people sit around wait until December 1st or after Thanksgiving to go look for work on a second job or something like that. And it's not effective, you've already been squeezed out," says Michael Hayes, Momentum Specialized Staffing.
Retailers like Macy's hire the most people.
Last year Macy's hired between 80,000 and 90,000 people for the X-Mas rush.
Macy's pays between $7.90 and $9.90 an hour, and employees get a 20 percent discount.
Another big holiday employer in retail -- Target.
Special computer kiosks are set up, where people can apply at the front of the store.
"At this store we're shooting to hire between 75 and 100 people just for our 4th quarter busy holiday season," says Christina Daniels of Target.
That's just at the Christown Mall store in Phoenix. Numbers vary, but all Targets have holiday job openings.
Pay at this store is $8 an hour for holiday temp help with a 10 percent discount on merchandise.
Also ramping up to hire for the Christmas rush is giant online retailer Amazon.
It hired some 50,000 seasonal workers last year, and will likely do the same or more this year.
Phoenix is home to Amazon's huge warehouse where online orders are filled. What does Amazon pay?
"$11.75 up to $12 or $13 depending on the skill set," says Michael Hayes.
These seasonal jobs came with virtually no benefits, and last from roughly November through January.
Some people of course will wrangle a full time job out of the experience, but most will leave at the end of January.
