Throw An A-List Emmy Bash

Posted: Updated:

This Sunday is the Emmy Awards, and we enlisted the help of Tony Schubert the celebrity party planner behind large scale & high profile events. He's going to show us how to throw an A-list bash at your house.

Event Planner Tony Schubert from event planning company Event Eleven is planning the hottest parties for the Emmy's this week, and he took time out to show Maria for some great at-home party tips for those watching the awards with friends this Sunday.

Flowers are always an easy way to decorate a space.  Keep costs down by purchasing in bulk from your favorite supermarket.  No need for expensive flowers!  Just buy all the same color scheme, mix and match what flowers you choose, and buy more than you think it will need.  The bigger the better.

Theme up your cocktails!  Pick your favorite Emmy-nominated show (like Mad Men, for example) and name your signature cocktail based on that show.  Print out the recipe and frame it for an extra special touch.  Stores like Crate and Barrel sell some great shakers that double as glasses, too.  Cuts the dishes in half, and makes for a festive change to regular cocktail glasses.

Colors and textures are a great way to switch up your space.  Switch out your pillows with some colorful throw pillows in different fabrics – fur, velvet, leather!  Have fun!  Throws are another inexpensive way to change up the space without having to redecorate.

Finally, lighting is key to any great party.  Use dimmer switches throughout your house whenever possible.  If not, the bulbs should be low wattage – 40 or 60 watts at the max.  Take any of your lamps, remove the shade and add in a cool Edison bulb for a modern, fresh approach.  Battery-operated candles are also a great tip.  They are animal and kit friendly and last much longer than traditional candles.

And finally, don't forget to have fun at your own party!  Don't put too much pressure on yourself to be the host with the most.  Prepare things ahead of time, sit with your friends, and enjoy the Emmy's!

Sutter Zachman had his first record deal when he was barely out of his teens. You may have seen the Orange County native was on stage at the Largo and other hot clubs around LA. He then left town...after what he called a few "bouts" with the music business, but now he is back with a new EP called ‘Repeat Offender.'
