3 people hit by car while in crosswalk

PHOENIX -

Three people were hit by a car that ran a red light at 55th Ave and Thomas Tuesday night.

Police say a westbound vehicle ran the light around 6:15 p.m., then hit three teenage pedestrians, who were in the crosswalk.

They had just gotten off the bus when they were struck.

"The light just turned green, the kids stepped in the intersection. I just heard bam, I looked to my side and all three of them were doing backflips in the air and landing on the street," said Jamie Flyte. She had just gotten off the bus and was waiting to cross the street in the other direction.

Flyte yelled for someone to call 911.

The driver remained at the scene and alcohol is not believed to be a factor. It's unknown if he will be cited.

Their injuries are not life-threatening.
