Detroit police search for suspects in robbery, sexual assault

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -

Police in Detroit say two men used an assault rifle during an early morning robbery, carjacking and sexual assault on the city's east side.

Police say the two male suspects approached a couple stopped in their vehicle at an intersection near Outer Dr. and Conant around 4 a.m. Tuesday.

The suspects forced the couple out of the vehicle and robbed the male driver at gunpoint. Police say they then forced the female passenger between two houses where they sexually assaulted her.

The suspects then stole the vehicle and fled the scene.

Officers were called to the scene and eventually found the vehicle in the area of Ryan Road and Nevada. They suspects, however, escaped on foot.

The female victim was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital where she is being treated for her injuries.

The suspects are described as black males in their 20s and around 6-foot tall. Both were wearing dark hooded sweatshirts and carrying an assault rifle and a shot gun.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit police at 313-596-5240 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
