WASHINGTON, DC - Five D.C. councilmembers are about to finalize their recommendations about how to discipline their colleague, Councilmember Marion Barry, for accepting cash gifts from two city contractors.

The special committee will vote Monday on whether to reprimand, censure or expel Barry. The committee could also recommend no punishment. The full council will vote Tuesday on the recommendation.

A reprimand requires a simple majority of the council's 13 members. A censure requires nine votes, and expulsion requires 11 votes.

Barry has already been censured and fined by the city's ethics board. He admitted that took a total of $6,800 from two construction companies that have done business with the city.

The former four-term mayor was censured by the council previously in 2010 for steering a city contract to a former girlfriend.
