Fairfax Police make arrest in murder of teen, Gerard Gomez

Fairfax Police have announced an arrest in the murder of Gerard Gomez.

Jose Alberto Blanco-Calzadilla,23, of Woodward Ave in Alexandria, has charged with 2nd degree murder.

Blanco-Calzadilla turned himself in Sunday afternoon to police.

Fairfax County Police got a call for a shooting at the Residence Inn along Westwood Center Drive in Vienna around 2 a.m. Saturday. Responding officers found the teen lying on the sidewalk suffering from upper body trauma.

Sixteen year old Gerard Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gomez, who friends say went by 'Gerald' was a junior at Mount Vernon High. According to classmates he was attending a party at the hotel and became involved in some sort of altercation.

Stunned friends held a candlelight vigil in the Mount Vernon area Sunday evening. Gomez was a junior at Mount Vernon Junior High, where he played football and lacrosse.
