CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A teenage mother and her young daughter were caught in the crossfire Friday night in a shooting on the South Side.

Police say the juvenile was hit in the leg and taken to Comer Children's Hospital where she was listed in good condition.

A witness said a group of young men came down the 7900 block of South Vernon and fired shots at another group of young men hanging out in the middle of the block.

They returned fire and in the exchange of bullets, the girl was shot. The child was not hit.

Area South detectives are investigating.
