Andy Samburg: We Let The Hijinks Begin

Posted: Updated:

Like so many little boys, And Samberg grew up wanting to become a policeman.

That's a joke, says the New York Daily News. He actually grew up wanting to become what he did become .. a comedian. So, lucky Andy. He gets to play both in Fox's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," a sitcom set in a cop shop.

No one should be even a little bit surprised that Detective Jake Peralta, the cop played by Samberg, is also a joker.   He's the kind of detective who walks around a crime scene, sees his boss — played by Andre Braugher — come in, and buoyantly declares, "Welcome to the murder."

But if you're a New Yorker and see Andy on the street, he says you'd never mistake him for a real cop.  "I could last maybe 30 seconds trying to impersonate a real cop," says Samberg. "I don't want to belittle the work that actual police officers do."

Andy joins Steve Edwards and Maria Sansone on Good Day L.A.

Fun Facts About Andy Samburg:

  • He is known as a cast member on Saturday Night Live (2005–2012), where they have been credited with popularizing the Emmy-winning SNL Digital Shorts, the comical short films and music videos starring Samberg and other members of the SNL cast. He also starred in Hot Rod, I Love You, Man, That's My Boy, and Celeste and Jesse Forever.
  • He majored in experimental film, where he starred as "Monkey" in the music video for James Kochalka's song "Monkey vs. Robot"
  • Before joining the late night comedy show SNL, Samberg was a YouTube and Internet star. He first began making comedy videos with his two friends Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. When YouTube was created in 2005, the streaming of their videos became much more widespread over the Internet.
  • In September 2005, Samberg joined SNL as a featured player along with his two friends as the show's writing staff. Though his live sketch roles were limited in his first year, he appeared in many prerecorded sketches including commercial parodies and various other filmed segments.
