PHOENIX (AP) - The legal guardian and aunt of a 10-year-old Arizona girl who authorities say died after another relative padlocked her in a footlocker has been sentenced to 24 years in prison.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 45-year-old Cynthia Stoltzmann also was sentenced Friday to lifetime probation.

She pleaded guilty in April to two counts of child abuse and one count of attempted child abuse.

Stoltzmann addressed the court and apologized.

"I am sorry for everything that I have done, the lives ruined and I know they are in a better place now. The kids have good parents that love them and Ame is in heaven. I am very sorry that I was not capable of doing what I should have done and I am very sorry about everything that I did do," she said.

Authorities say Ame Deal died after a man who is married to the girl's cousin locked her in a trunk as discipline for having stolen popsicles.

The girl's 74-year-old grandmother Judith Deal was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison and lifetime probation. She pleaded guilty in April to attempted child abuse.

Two other relatives are charged with killing the child in July 2011.
