ATLANTA -

Authorities are searching for an armed suspect who fled on foot after a leading police on a chase on Thursday.

According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, the chase began after authorities responded to a home invasion on Suwanee Trail Drive in Buford.

Police said the suspect held a 14-year-old boy and his 10-year-old brother inside the house at gunpoint as he took things from the home. The suspect then left the home in a white sedan.

After the boys were able to give police a description of the car, authorities spotted it on I-85 around Beaver Ruin Road. Speeds reached about 80 mph as police pursued the vehicle.

The suspect led Gwinnett County police and Georgia State Patrol troopers into northeast Atlanta before losing control and crashing on Buford Spring Connector. The suspect then fled on foot, according to police.

Police were actively searching for the suspect on Thursday afternoon. He was said to be armed and dangerous.

Authorities do not believe the car was stolen. They are working with its owner to determine who may have been driving it.
