Expiration dates only for taste - definitely still edible

The expiration dates you see on a lot of foods may not mean what you think.

Most people think the expiration dates mean you shouldn't eat or use the product after that date. However, many foods are edible well past those dates.

Manufacturers simply put them on foods to mean they taste the best if used before that date.

Researchers said Friday that Americans throw out billions of dollars of food a year because they don't understand how the expiration labels work.
