Hoboken High School EMT program dropped

Posted: Updated:
NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

The Hoboken High School Emergency Response Team was created soon after the attacks on 9/11.

As the years went on, Hoboken High School created an elective class for students who were interested in emergency service careers. Officials in Blairstown, New Jersey, donated an ambulance to help with the cause.

The program has helped several students become certified emergency medical technicians throughout the state.

But as of September 9, Hoboken Public Schools cut the emergency response elective program for students because interest in the program has dramatically dropped off.

But for Tom Molta, the president of the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the program being dropped doesn't help his crews when they're stretched thin on calls.

Students in the EMT program say part of the reason why they think the program was cut was due to insurance reasons.

For decades, making some quick cash was the main drive behind so many who took the ride down the parkway to Atlantic City. But with so much to choose from nowadays, it looks like Atlantic City is in a lot of trouble.
