TOWNSEND, Del. -

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office says a man has been arrested in connection with an early Wednesday house fire in New Castle County.

The fire started shortly before 1:00 a.m. in the 100 block of McKay's Corner Road in Townsend.

According to the fire marshal's officer, state fire investigators determined the blaze was intentionally started in the home. There was one occupant inside, who escaped unharmed, they said.

Franklin J. Bartsch Jr., 39, of Townsend, was arrested at the scene. He was charged with arson in the first degree and reckless endangering in the first degree.

Authorities said Bartsch was committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of a $25,000 secured bond.

There were no injuries. The fire damage was estimated at $1,500, according to police.

Bartsch was previously arrested last month for intentionally starting a fire just before noon on Aug. 8 at a wood mill located in the 100 block of McKay's Corner Road. That fire caused about $2,000 in damage, officials say. Bartsch was charged with arson in the second degree and released on a $10,000 unsecured bond.
