Flying DC's no fly zone with the Coast Guard

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

There is an invisible ring that surrounds the nation's capital. A no-fly zone is in place to protect our leaders and government buildings from an attack.

Since 9/11, the airspace has been protected around the clock. The Coast Guard has provided intercept helicopters since 2006.

FOX 5 was invited to fly with the Coast Guard on a training intercept mission. Our cameras were given rare access to video record over the nation's capital, and to show exactly how the military keeps the airspace safe.
