DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

The sheriff's deputy stabbed during what police say was a prisoner's elaborate escape is said to be in good condition, and is out of the hospital recovering at home with family.

Earlier today, sheriff's deputies were standing outside the emergency room at Detroit Receiving Hospital where 63-year-old Harrison Tolliver was treated for puncture wounds. Authorities say those wounds were inflicted by Abraham Pearson during his escape.

The sheriff says Pearson used a plastic comb to make a knife, but the sharp part of the comb broke off during the attack and that's likely why Tolliver's injuries were not severe or life-threatening.

By mid-afternoon Tolliver was back at his home on the east side with his family. They declined to talk on camera, but tell Fox 2's Robin Schwartz Tolliver is in good spirits and doing well.

Tolliver is a retired inspector with the Detroit Police Department who served for 26 years from 1971-1997.

He also worked as a civilian supervisor with the Board of Police Commissioners and as a deputy in the Wayne County Sheriff's Department.

Police say Pearson escaped from a holding cell at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice early Monday morning. Police believe after he stabbed Tolliver, Pearson stole and put on Tolliver's uniform, walked out of the courthouse then proceeded to carjack a motorist.

Pearson's whereabouts are still unknown.
