Funeral services held for fallen Douglas County soldier

Posted: Updated:
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. -

The Douglas County community gathered on Monday to remember a soldier killed in the line of duty.

Sgt. Joshua Bowden died last week in Afghanistan after he encountered small-arms fire while on dismounted patrol.

Resident lined the streets in Douglasville waving flags and holding posters with messages of support.

"This is something that I wanted to do to pay respects for a fallen soldier. He didn't have to do this for us. He didn't have to pay the ultimate price, but he chose to enlist in the service, and I thought it my duty to come out and pay respects to him and his family," Mike King said.

Funeral services were held at Central Baptist Church.

Bowden joined the Army in 2005; he was on his second deployment of Afghanistan.

Bowden's body will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the EOD Warrior Foundation by going to eodwarriorfoundation.org.
