Jonathan Lipnicki: Stage Is The Proving Ground For Acting

Posted: Updated:

Jonathan Lipnicki says he wasn't the first young actor to be cast as Renee Zellweger's son in "Jerry Maguire," the movie that would eventually make him a star.

Jonathan was just five years old at the time and he remembers only bits and pieces from making the movie; sometimes he has to ask his mother to refresh his memory.

One thing he does remember is that he wasn't the producers' first choice. "They cast another kid, shot two weeks with him and it wasn't working out.  They went to recast it and they wouldn't see me because I was on a list of kids who had already auditioned.  My agent really had to push to get me in the room, and I did and I got the part."

Now, Jonathan is nearly 23 and he's appearing on stage in L.A. in "Lost Girls" about a mom and dad dealing with the disappearance of their teenaged daughter during a blizzard.   Oh, and the little kid who once co-starred in "Jerry Maguire" appears naked in this play.  Not for long, but there is full-frontal nudity, Jonathan says.

Jonathan joins Steve Edwards and Maria Sansone on Good Day L.A.
