Help FOX 11 Tell This Story: Moving To Escape Violence

Posted: Updated:

During the Monday morning news meeting here at FOX 11, we were discussing the shooting death of six-year-old Tiana Ricks during a family party over the weekend and we were struck by something her cousin told one of our reporters yesterday.

LeShawn Cook, the owner of the house where the party and shooting took place, said she moved to Moreno Valley two years ago from Compton to escape the gang violence in her old community. In those two years, she says, she's "never heard gunshots, never seen guys hanging out. I thought it was a good neighborhood."

Now, this: a young girl is dead and her father wounded and Riverside County Sheriff's Deputies say the suspects may be gang members. Cook and her family moved out of the city looking for a safer life, like so many other families who have moved to other parts of the Inland Empire and Antelope Valley. Sadly, for some of those people, the violence has now followed them to their new communities.

We think this is an important story and we'd like to hear what you have to say about it.

Twins brothers with a YouTube channel filled with their pranks say they weren't trying to make a joke. Serious intentions or not, a park full of parents were not amused by their latest stunt. This video is a must-see!

I met the folks from Gunnar Optiks at CES this year and they had something new to show me. The Intercepts. I have a big head, these are big frames, it was kismet but do they work as good as they look? We'll see.
