Campaign created to help woman burned by acid

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A local radio host has started a campaign to help a Henry County woman who was severely injured after acid was splashed in her face.

Christy Sims, 43, says her ex-boyfriend, Andrew Fordham, intentionally robbed her and her two children of the life they once knew.

Sensing an impending breakup, Christy say Fordham tossed a bowl full of sulfuric acid -- drain cleaner --  in her face.

"He didn't give me the opportunity to fight for myself," she said. "It happened so fast."

Fordham called 911 and said he slipped and it was an accident, but 10 minutes into the call, the two operators trying to help raised serious concerns.

By the time paramedics arrived it was too late – Sims' glowing smile was destroyed.

"My face is really, really bad.  Sulfuric acid set on my face for at least 10 minutes," said Sims.

The mother of two was severely burned on her arms, chest and face.

"I don't want a lot, I just want to be a mother to my children, I miss my babies," she said.

Kiss 104-FM mid-day host, Sasha the Diva, is now leading a movement to get Christy medical and legal help.

"I am on the move to get justice for this young lady. I am on the move to help her keep everything that she has because she is going to lose everything," Sasha said.

Mounting medical bills and not being able to work have left Christy feeling empty. But behind the scarf is something Christy will never lose: her heart.

"I won't ever stop loving. I won't ever stop believing in love. I won't ever stop having hope. I will never turn my back on god. And he cannot take that away from me," said Sims.

Andrew Fordham has not been charged. He says it was an accident.  Christy was in a medically-induced coma for two months and just last week, investigators were able to re-create the scene.  Investigators say that her case will go before a grand jury soon.
