2 People Still Missing In Commercial Building Fire

Compton, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) It took firefighters 85 minutes to put out a blaze at a two-story commercial structure in Compton this morning, and one firefighter was slightly injured, authorities said.

The fire at the 5,000-square-foot building at 4300 East Compton Boulevard was reported around 2 a.m., said Los Angeles County Fire Dispatch Supervisor Robert Diaz.

The first arriving firefighters saw flames shooting through the roof, Diaz said. A greater alarm fire was called and units responded from the Compton Fire Department as well as Los Angeles County.

The blaze was fought defensively -- meaning from the exterior, Diaz said, and the flames were out at 3:24 a.m. Firefighters then searched through debris for embers still burning and for anyone who might have been inside.

One person who had been in the structure was evacuated, according to broadcast reports. A firefighter suffered a minor injury and was transported to a hospital for treatment, Diaz said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, he said.
