Drivers warned of traffic ahead of Redskins game

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

It could be the perfect storm for a huge traffic mess. The Redskins season opener at 6:55pm Monday could have
fans trying to share a lane with commuters on their way home.

The best way to avoid gridlock is Metro. The Blue Line stop at Morgan Boulevard is 9/10ths of a mile from the stadium. There's a new walkway that takes you right to the gate.

The Blue Line Metro stop at Largo Town Center is just a mile away.

If you prefer to drive instead of taking Metro, you can park at both Metro lots for $25 and then walk to the game via the walkway.   Metro has a brochure called Getting to FedEx Field on game day on its web site at
http://www.wmata.com

If you drive, expect an even earlier rush hour than usual. Parking lots at FedEx Field open at 3 pm.

The Prince George's County Police Department will be tweeting out traffic alerts in real time on game day. https://twitter.com/PGPDNews

You can sign up for mobile alerts on the Redskins site at www.redskins.com.  They'll text traffic alerts to you.

Another way to get a fast look at traffic conditions is by texting RSTRAFFIC to 44636. More information about that on the Redskin Web site.

FedEx Way closes at midnight Sunday and won't reopen until 2AM Tuesday.
