Truck carrying 9 people hits pole; woman dies

TEMPE, Ariz. -

A pickup loaded with nine people rolled over on the Loop 101's off-ramp from U.S. 60, killing one woman and injuring others.

This happened on Sunday afternoon when the driver went off the roadway and hit a light pole, which caused the truck to flip on its side.

Officers say the nine people were inside the truck ranged in age from 18 months to 36-years-old.

The driver's wife, who was in the front seat, was killed in the crash.

"There's no people in the back of the truck.  There's people in various positions inside the crew cab on each others laps, somebody sitting on the floorboard and some at the feet of one of the people," said William Rogers of the Department of Public Safety.

Many of the passengers were injured, including a 9-year-old.  We're told some are in critical condition.

Officers say the freeway was slick at the time of the collision.
