Want to see things change? Get out and vote

Opinion by Mike Renda, General Manager WJBK Fox 2

And then there were two.

Now that Detroit's primary election has been certified, We will see Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon against former Detroit Medical Center Chief Mike Duggan in November's election for mayor.

There was a lot of controversy going into the primary, with Duggan getting kicked off the ballot for not filing at the right time. He then goes on to win as a write-in candidate.

Some people are crying foul claiming that the entire process was flawed, but registered voters in November will have the final word.

So my suggestion is this: Get out and vote.

Roughly 4 out of 5 registered voters failed to cast a ballot in the Detroit primary.

You want a voice -- A stake in the game -- VOTE.

Appointed Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr will not be here forever.  He's supposed to be gone in 14-months.

Your vote in November's election matters.

Your vote determines who the next mayor will be. Your vote will determine the next members of city council.

Let's take it a step further.

Many people don't like the idea of an emergency manager -- then vote out the guy who appointed him.

All the legislation that is passed into law in our state is written by people who were voted in.

If you disagree with their positions, vote them out.

If you agree, then vote to keep them in.

Our job at Fox 2 is to provide information about the upcoming election.

Your job as an American is to get informed and vote.

It's the most powerful tool you have to create change.

150 years ago.... President Abraham Lincoln in his famous address at Gettysburg said:  We are a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

We the people need to vote… or the liberties that so many have fought and died for will indeed perish from the earth.

Tell me what you think, add you comments to the bottom of this story.
