BURKE, Va. -

A Burke, Virginia woman has put new security in place and bought a new dog after a man tried to force his way into her home.

Police have released a sketch of the alleged assailant.

Heather Kettner says she opened the door to her house on Scarborough Commons Court the evening of August 23rd, when a man told her he was in the neighborhood doing home improvement projects. She told him she wasn't interested. That's when, she says, he used a small knife and tried to slash her in the face with it. She managed to slam the door in his face, and he ran away.

Neighbors are shocked and say they'll have to stop being so trusting. People we spoke to said they would stop opening their doors without checking to see who was there first. At the Kettner household, Heather says she, her husband and sons have new security measures in place, including the purchase of a German Shepherd.

The suspect was described as Hispanic, 20s, with brown hair, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds and wearing a black t-shirt and jeans.
