Noise prompts school lockdown in Conn.

Posted: Updated:

An elementary school in Norwalk, Conn., was locked down after a teacher reported hearing possible gunshots in the area.

Police responded to Cranbury Elementary School on Wednesday morning but said they did not find anything suspicious.

SkyFoxHD was over the school Wednesday afternoon where officers could be seen searching the surrounding area.

Dog walkers in nearby Cranbury Park told police they did not hear shots, according to a report. After investigating, officers decided the noise probably came from a nearby construction site.

Some parents told Fox 5 that the school and the police handled things well. Parents were given the option of taking their kids out of class or leaving them in school, Fox 5's Lisa Evers reported. Most parents opted to keep children in class to maintain a sense of normalcy.

On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza shot and killed 20 children and six staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown.
