Fueled by music, use of drug Molly gains popularity

Updated:
PHOENIX -

Molly isn't just a girl's name, it's a term for a form of ecstasy.

The name has been around for awhile, but lately it's been gaining popularity in music.

Kanye West references it in his latest song "Mercy," saying "Something about Mary, she's gone off that Molly."

During Miley Cyrus' performance at the VMAs, MTV bleeped out part of her lyrics that referenced "Dancing with Molly."

Two people were killed at New York music festival, Randall's Island, on Saturday.

Police say they died after taking Molly. The drug is also known as MDMA, a pure form of ecstasy.

FOX 10's Kristin Anderson talks to Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson about the drug and what officers are doing to keep it off the streets.
