CLINTON, Md. -
Prince George's County Police are investigating the death of a former U.S. Marine, killed in a hit and run in Clinton, Maryland. Eric Bridgett served several tours in Afghanistan and Haiti. His wife Brandi is in disbelief that his life was taken this way, right here in their home town.
Police say the 27 year old's body was found around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning along Kirby Road. The location was not near a crosswalk but investigators believe he was trying to cross the street when he was hit. The striking vehicle fled the scene.
According to his wife, Bridgett was devoted to an active lifestyle and it was not unusual for him to walk home from his job at the nearby Levi's Restaurant. He had just wrapped up his shift as a cook, a skill he learned while serving in the Marine Corps.
The couple met at an 8th Grade dance at Stephen Decatur Middle School in Clinton. They started dating in 10th grade and had been together ever since. After spending the past two and a half years at Camp Pendleton in California, while Bridgett was in active duty, they returned home to Fort Washington, Maryland just a few months ago.
Bridgett also leaves behind the couple's three children, 5 year old Aiden, 3 year old Abigail, and 4 month old Avi. Brandi Bridgett is asking whoever is responsible for her husband's death to contact police. She told Fox 5, "These children will never see their dad again and I'll never see my high school sweetheart again. I really just want to see someone come forward so we can have peace and closure."
