Scattered thunderstorms expected in Arizona

Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - Scattered thunderstorms are expected throughout Arizona on the Labor Day weekend with most of the activity in the eastern and northern parts of the state.

The National Weather Service says portions of northwest Arizona remained under a flash flood watch until late Saturday thanks to expected showers and thunderstorms.

Other parts of the state also were under a flash flood watch.

Severe weather struck the Phoenix metro area on Friday leaving trees toppled and roads flooded. Officials say storms left thousands without power.

Officials reported that Apache Junction received 1.57 inches of rain, and east Mesa received 1.42 inches.
