HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The mayor of Hagerstown says the city remains committed to building a downtown stadium even as its minor-league team pursues a move to Virginia.
City officials are scheduled to meet next week with Bruce Quinn, the majority owner of the Hagerstown Suns, which is looking into relocating to Fredericksburg, Va.
Mayor David S. Gysberts tells the Herald-Mail of Hagerstown that the city will "build a stadium for a team that wants to be here."
The city council in Fredericksburg has endorsed a proposal to land the Suns, which has proposed a partnership that plans to build a privately financed sports complex.
Gysberts says a stadium could be used for sporting events and other programmed activities.
