A Boss That Inspires Employees to Quit

Posted: Updated:

When Jay Rodriguez became the grounds manager at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, his 14 man crew was in for a total change in their routine and their lives.

"I wanted them to feel like you know what i can improve myself, i can improve my finances, i can get a better job, I can go out into the world and really make a difference," said Jay Rodriguez.

Jay hopes his employees will get an education even if that means they'll one day look for better jobs, in fact that's his goal.

"I went back to school when i was 40 and I went to school for 6 years and it was tough. But it completely changed my life I became a landscape architect," said Rodriguez.

Jay says if he can do it these men can too.  He's making that goal a reality.

Jay started small –implementing a workout program, then he pushed employees to get enrolled in school. Learn English, even get a degree.

"I thought at first, it's not going to happen. You know? But then it did happen and it was exciting," said Jim Cuevas, one of the employees.  Thanks to the jumping jacks, push-ups and squats the crew does 3 times a week Jim lost 40 lbs.

And Jose Hernandez gained something else.  "He best thing he's doing for me, I'm going to school to learning English.  Now everything is getting much better and my life is more easy.
