NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A lack of training and experience combined with poor decision-making contributed to the sinking of a fishing boat off the New Jersey coast in 2009.

That's the conclusion of a Coast Guard report released Friday on the sinking of the Lady Mary on March 24, 2009 about 65 miles southeast of Cape May. 6 of 7 crew members were killed.

The Coast Guard's investigation concluded that several factors led to the boat's sinking and that the sinking was a survivable event.

The report says a number of modifications over the years had gradually made the vessel less safe and that although it was equipped with a full complement of life-saving equipment, the captain and crew were unprepared to handle the emergency situation.

For decades, making some quick cash was the main drive behind so many who took the ride down the parkway to Atlantic City. But with so much to choose from nowadays, it looks like Atlantic City is in a lot of trouble.
