Big weekend events mean big traffic headaches

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

From DragonCon to NASCAR, there's plenty happening in the metro Atlanta area this weekend.  That means there will also be plenty of traffic, but we've got some advice on how you can avoid the gridlock.

Downtown will be the busiest spot by far.  DragonCon, the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic, a black gay pride celebration and a Braves home series mean there will be people everywhere.

Peachtree Street will host the DragonCon parade Saturday morning starting at 10 a.m.  You should also expect delays around the Georgia Dome for Saturday's Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic at 7 p.m.

The Braves host the Marlins all weekend long, so you should avoid Turner Field to stay out of game traffic.

Your best advice?  Carpool, or take MARTA to downtown events.  Interstate and in-town traffic will be extra heavy.  And either way, remember to pack your patience!
