CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A CTA bus accident on the Near West Side injured at least five people and prompted a HazMat response because of a fuel spill Friday morning.

The accident at South Western Avenue and West 15th Place about 10:20 a.m. involved a CTA bus and a semi truck, and resulted in a diesel fuel spill, according to police and Fire Media Affairs.

The driver of the southbound No. 49 Western Avenue bus was injured and taken to Rush University Medical Center, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said. Four other people were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Another 18 people refused medical treatment, Fire Media said.

Reroutes for the No. 49 Western buses are still in effect, Hosinski said.

The cause and details of the crash are under investigation.
